In the newsroom, Marjorie's grace, intelligence, warmth, and generosity all shone. But one quality comes up more than any other: her kindness. "She embodied kindness, I think, as much as anyone I've ever met," one writer told me yesterday. There are so many examples of it in my own life. When I left the Monitor to care for a relative, the book reviews Marjorie gave me to do were a lifeline back to my sense of self, and getting to talk to her was always a balm. When I was able to come back, Marjorie is the person I called. An editor and I were talking last night about how much she meant to us, and she put it very well: Her kindness is her legacy, and it's up to us to carry it on. Sending so much love. – Yvonne
