I worked closely with Marjorie for two years on the Monitor's Rapid Response Team. The hours were long and the deadlines punishing, but most of my memories of that time are happy ones, thanks to Marjorie having been there. Her intelligence and open-mindedness are legendary. But most of all, I'll remember her empathy. I don't think I've ever met anyone else who could so quickly 'get' people, to understand where they were coming from and what they were capable of. The number of careers she launched is staggering. Every day, there are writers filing stories on every topic in every corner of the globe who, at the very beginnings of their professional journeys, benefited from Marjorie's gentle guidance and mentorship. --Eoin
