An ideal editor is your advocate, your fan and your friend. For 15+ years, Marjorie was my ideal editor, a woman of extraordinary kindness and warmth (and forgiving too!) While we only met in person once or twice, Marjorie and I communicated by email every week. We talked about her loves -- dogs, traveling and her family. I'd send Marjorie photos of interesting Christian Science churches that I came across, and I even once told her a slightly off-color story I'd heard about a lusty Christian Scientist. She appreciated the tale, or at least convinced me that she did! Marjorie always made me feel appreciated and valued, and it was clear how much she cared about all of her writers. Marjorie was deeply upset when another Monitor book reviewer, a close friend of mine, became ill. She was delighted when my pal recovered and thrilled when I'd send her photos of me, my friend and her family. I remember learning that Marjorie's husband is a big fan of the Beatles. That was good news, I thought, since it sounded like he was a really good guy, and she deserved the very best. Why? Because she was the very best herself. Godspeed, Marjorie, and thank you. -Randy
