I didn't know Marjorie well, but she's had a large impact on my life. Although my husband Barry and I were avid readers of fiction when we were young, as adults we had abandoned that form in favor of nonfiction. Then I began illustrating Marjorie's book reviews. One of the first was an intriguing review of Ann Patchett's State of Wonder, which we decided to read, and which we loved. That was only the first of many, many novels we have read in the years since, often the ones Marjorie chose to have reviewed in the Monitor. With every new book we begin, we thank Marjorie for re-introducing us to a universe we had nearly forgotten, and which brings us so much joy. We will miss her mightily.
